Punjab Police ASI Physical Test Details and Preparation Tips
Height, chest and eyesight standards from PPSC police advertisements, what the running test involves, and a practical plan to pass the physical and written tests.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and Sub-Inspector posts in Punjab Police are filled through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). Every advertisement includes physical standards and a physical test, and many candidates fail at this stage simply because they did not prepare early. This guide explains what to expect.
Physical standards (measurements)
PPSC advertisements for Punjab Police officer posts in recent years have used these standards:
| Standard | Male | Female |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum height | 5 feet 7 inches | 5 feet 2 inches |
| Chest | 33 inches (unexpanded), 34.5 inches expanded | Not required |
| Eyesight | Distant vision 6/6 in both eyes (with or without glasses) and near vision J1 | Same as male |
Some advertisements allow a small height relaxation for specific areas or groups. Read the eligibility criteria of your advertisement carefully, because standards can change from one year to the next.
The running (physical) test
The physical test is usually a timed race: a longer distance for men (commonly 1600 metres) and a shorter distance for women. The exact distance, time limit and number of attempts are written in the advertisement and the test call letter, and they have varied between years, so check yours.
Most candidates who fail do so because they start running only a few days before the test.
6-week physical preparation plan
| Week | Plan |
|---|---|
| 1 | Walk-jog 20 minutes daily. Light stretching. |
| 2 | Jog 1 km without stopping, 5 days a week. |
| 3 | Run 1.5 km; add 2 days of short sprints (6 × 100 m). |
| 4 | Run 2 km; time yourself over 1600 m once a week. |
| 5 | Practise the test distance at test speed twice a week. |
| 6 | Light runs only; rest well 2 days before the test. |
Tips: wear proper running shoes, warm up for 5–10 minutes, drink water, and do not try a full-speed run on an empty stomach.
Written test preparation tips
The written test is MCQ-based and usually covers general ability:
- Pakistan Studies and General Knowledge: important dates, constitutions, geography. Use our Pakistan Studies MCQs and GK MCQs.
- Islamiat: basics of Quran, Hadith, Ghazwat and the Caliphs (Islamiat MCQs).
- English and Urdu: synonyms, antonyms, correct sentences and translation.
- Maths and Everyday Science: percentages, ratios, averages and simple science facts.
- Computer: shortcuts and full forms (Computer MCQs).
- Current Affairs: read weekly current affairs for the last 6 months.
Take a full Punjab Police ASI mock test at least twice a week in the last month.
