Punjab Police Ranks in Order (2026): Constable to IG with BPS Scales and How Each Rank Is Recruited
All Punjab Police ranks in order from Constable to Inspector General, with BPS scales for the main ranks and how you can join at each level: Constable, ASI, Sub-Inspector, DSP or ASP.
Quick answer: Punjab Police ranks from bottom to top are Constable, Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Sub-Inspector (SI), Inspector, DSP/ASP, SP, SSP, DIG, Additional IG and Inspector General (IG). Direct entry is possible at four main levels: Constable (BS-07), ASI (BS-11), Sub-Inspector (BS-14) and ASP/DSP (BS-17).
Knowing the rank structure helps in two ways: questions about police ranks come up in written tests and interviews, and it shows you which rank you can apply for with your qualification.
